Festive mini games - Day 13 "Roll and grab"

Th
is year I am sharing 24 mini games over advent, where the rules can be explained on the back of a single business card. Today's game is called "Roll and grab". This game is a push your luck game. If you play it safe you will probably do ok. But, you wont win by playing it safe.

Day 13 "Roll and grab"

Players: 2-12 players
Equipment: Dice and a pile of sweets

Concise rules:
Pick a number between 1-5. roll a dice. If the number you roll is higher grab from the pot the number of sweets equal to your initial guess (not the number on the dice). If you roll equal or under your guess you get nothing. However, if you roll a 6, you can choose to take 3 sweets from another players pile, instead of your guess from the central pot. Play passes to the left. Repeat until the sweet pot is empty.

Notes:

The base of this game is a simple push your luck decision. How many sweets do you think you can get. There isn't much strategy to this, just your gut and statistics. But if you a roll a 6 then you have an important decision to make. A 6 is great you definitely get the number of sweets you bet. But you could always take some sweets from someone else. If your the first person to roll a 6 this move will likely get people annoyed at you, making you the target of there next opportunity to steal sweets. But if someone is in the lead this is a great way to start catching up. I would suggest having enough sweets for roughly each player to walk away with 4-8 sweets.

A slight twist to the rules you can use. Players can start eating the sweets they have won, people can't steal what's in your belly. Probably not the best rule for younger kids but a fun moment when you watch Uncle Jamie stuffing his checks with sweets to avoid being robbed.
