Festive mini games - Day 2 "Chocolate Mittens

This year I am sharing 24 mini games, where the rules can be explained on the back of a single business card. For the 24 days of advent I will be sharing one a day on my blog. Today's game is called "Chocolate Mittens". 


I love little games, that take moments to explain and fill between 2-15 minutes. So, I set myself a challenge to collect and create as many as possible. I have had them printed on business cards with a festive gold emboss and I am slipping them into all my Christmas cards this year. 

Day 2 "Chocolate Mittens"

Players: 3-10 players
Equipment: Big bar of chocolate, dice, knife & fork, mittens, hat & scarf

Concise rules: 
Take turns rolling the dice. If you roll a 6, you must put on the mittens, hat & scarf. Then use the knife & fork to cut off a square of chocolate, and eat it as quickly as possible. The next person to roll a 6 will take your place. The player who finishes 
the bar of chocolate wins. 

Notes:
This is a traditional party game I played with my family for years. I wanted to add a few of these classic games that maybe take a bit more time to set up and play but lead to lots of laughter and competition. If playing with children adults may need to help them put on the mittens. 

The jpg below shows the print file used, the print company requires the sections to be embossed in gold to be pure black. 


Game extension/variation: 
Swap out the chocolate bar for concentrated jelly cubes or other food. Also you can swap what people need to get dressed up in. Santa hats, Christmas jumpers, oven mitts, party glasses and fake moustaches are all fun ideas.  

Bit of admin: 
Some of the games I am sharing are classic parlor games (look for the top hat symbol), some are original creations by me (with the fish symbol) and a couple are hacks of games using commonly board games (the cog symbol). It was a bit of guess work on some of the games, I may have called a game an original creation because I can't remember reading it anywhere but I might have played it at a party or youth group a couple of decades ago. If you know a source for a game I have shared as an original please let me know.

Th is year I am sharing 24 mini games over advent, where the rules can be explained on the back of a single business card. Today's game is called "Elf's shopping list". I made this card thinking of joyful chaos with people running around a space. Day 22 "Elf's shopping list" Players:  2-20 players Equipment: Stuff at hand Concise rules:  You're the judge for a scavenger hunt, split players into teams and give them the first item to find. When they return it, tell them the next item on the list.  Yes players can interpret items creatively.  Items: 1) 5 gold rings 2) Green ornament  3) Connected mittens 4) Something frozen  5) Nativity scene 6) Cookie 7) Bells  8) Holly leaf 9) Glitter 10) Red Robin  Notes: Scavenger hunt's are nothing new and this is a mainly a Christmas based list to use. Festive mini games - Day 22 "60 Seconds"

Th is year I am sharing 24 mini games over advent, where the rules can be explained on the back of a single business card. Today's game is called "60 Seconds".  Day 22 "60 Seconds" Players:  3-8 players Equipment:  Timer Concise rules:  Players must speak on a given topic for 60 seconds without hesitation, repetition, or deviation. Challenges are made by other players, and a point is scored for a correct challenges along with the challenger taking over the topic. Players score a point if they are speaking when the timer ends and a bonus point if they speak for the full 60 seconds without a successful challenge. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins. Notes: I find this game a great challenge and I don't think I have ever successfully spoke for the full minute on any topic.
